Sam Tan Documentary

Producer | Director | Editor

Born and raised in Malaysia, Samantha Tan (no relation) is the first Malaysian ever to become a Lifetime Member of The Actors Studio and the first Malaysian in history to be accepted into the Actors Studio Drama School program in NYC where she trained for 3 years.

After graduating from The Actors Studio, Sam moved to Los Angeles for better acting opportunities but after so many years abroad, she has self-taught and mastered Malaysian cooking. She finds herself in two worlds; acting, going to auditions or hand modeling by day to cooking up a storm as a home chef-entrepreneur by night. Perfectly sure that she has a winning sambal recipe, Sam is now on a quest to put it in jars and on the shelves of grocery stores all over the United States, bringing the Malaysian palette a little closer to American tastebuds one jar at a time.

This trio of powerhouse musicians, based in Los Angeles each have their own humble beginnings and this documentary sets out to explore how their past got them to their present and what they are doing now for fellow Malaysians back home.

Khim Teoh from my very first documentary, Rasa Sayang, is executive producing this one.
